History

This Medal is associated with the Medal for Athletic Valour, which was instituted in 1993 during the fascist government. The modern Medal is awarded by the Italian National Olympic Committee upon Italian winners of various sports competitions, and its purpose is to reward exceptional athleticism and the worldwide recognition of Italian sport prowess.

The reverse may be inscribed with the name of the recipient, as well as the date and event of which they are being recognized.
