History
This Order was conferred upon Turkish citizens and foreigners in recognition of extraordinary civil and military services to the state. It was also awarded for military merit as well as civil merit.
Swords were added to distinguish the awards conferred for military merit.
There are several variations in the design attributes of this Order, including the addition of diamonds and rubies.
The inscription is a translation of the Arabic script on the obverse, with the Sultan's initials in the centre of the medallion. The makers mark of the Ottoman Imperial Mint, or a foreign mint, is found on the reverse.
