    The Medal of Scientific Merit was awarded to Romanian citizens in recognition of merit in a variety of scientific fields. It was permanently discontinued following the collapse of the Socialist Republic in 1989.

    The Gold Medal features a reverse inscription that translates to "Romanian Socialist Republic, Scientific Merit."
