History

The Bene Merenti Order of the Ruling House was established by King Carol II in 1935. It was conferred upon Romanian civilians and military personnel in recognition of service to the crown. It could also be awarded with swords from 1937-1940. It was officially replaced by the Order of St. George in 1940.

The I Class Cross (for Men) features a surmounting crown and was worn on a neck ribbon. The I Class Cross (for Women) has rays between the arms and was worn on a bow.
