History

The Pro Virtute Decoration for the Straja Tarii was established by King Carol II in 1937. The Straja Tarii was a paramilitary youth organisation that was modelled after the Hitler Youth and commanded by the King himself, but both the organisation and the decoration were disbanded in 1940.

The Pro Virtute Decoration for the Straja Tarii was awarded by the King, as the Commander of the Straja Tarii, to those who performed acts of bravery and self-sacrifice. It could also be awarded to foreigners under exceptional circumstances. One such recipient was Baldur von Schirach, leader of the Hitler Youth.
