History
The Decoration for Merit to Polish Culture was established by the Republic of Poland in 1994 and was based on the Decoration for Merit to Polish Culture of the Polish People’s Republic. It is currently awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage to Polish citizens and organisations in recognition of cultural activism, contributions to international cultural development, and the promotion of Polish culture abroad. It may also be awarded to foreigners and foreign organisations for their contributions to cultural life in Poland.
The Decoration features initials on the obverse that stand for "Rzeczpospolita Polska" (Polish Republic) with an additional inscription that can be translated to "Merit to Polish Culture."
See also the Decoration for Merit to Polish Culture (POL536) in the Medals & Decorations of the Polish People’s Republic (1944-1989).
