History

The Cross of Valour and Merit on Silesian Ribbon was first established by Polish military authorities in Upper Silesia in 1921 as a ribbon decoration. The cross was later introduced in 1931. It was recognised as a national Polish decoration in 1922 and was permitted for wear on military uniforms.

It was awarded to military personnel and civilians for meritorious service in the Silesian Uprisings of 1919, 1920, and 1921. The I Class Cross was awarded to those who participated in combat, while the II Class Cross was awarded to those who contributed to the uprisings in other ways.

The I Class Cross has a small silver star clasp. The obverse inscription translates to "Upper Silesia," and the reverse inscription translates to "For the Brave."
