History
The Order of the Builders of the People's Poland was established by the Sejm in 1949. It was officially discontinued in 1992 following the collapse of the communist regime, although it had not been awarded since 1985.
It was conferred upon Polish citizens and institutions in recognition of meritorious contributions to the economy, education, science and technology, national defence, and civil service in the Polish People's Republic.
There are two versions of the Gold Medal that differ in inscription. The first version was awarded from 1949-1952 and features initials that stand for “Rzeczpospolita Polska” (Republic of Poland). The second version features initials that stand for “Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa” (Polish People's Republic).
The Order was conferred a total of 323 times - 314 times to individuals and 9 times to institutions.
