History

Named in honour of the 1903 Ilinden Uprising, this Order is conferred upon individuals in recognition of service in the struggle for national and social liberation, and to political prisoners or individuals persecuted for ideas regarding Macedonian rights and freedom.

It is also awarded to governments, institutions and individuals for contributions to independence, sovereignty, social development, and outstanding achievements in security and defence on a national and international scale.
