History
The Medal of the Order of the Cross of Vytis was created as an extension of the Order of the Cross of Vytis in 1991. It is awarded to Lithuanian civilians and military personnel in recognition of the defence of Lithuanian independence and freedom, including resistance activities during the Soviet occupation of Lithuania from 1940-1990. It may also be awarded in recognition of meritorious command of troops during combat, acts of bravery during combat, the defence of public and private property, aid provided to national defence organisations, and all other actions that demonstrate bravery, heroism, and dedication to the nation and its citizens.
The Silver Medal features a reverse inscription that translates to "For Bravery."
