The War Cross for the Gendarmerie was awarded to Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and enlisted men of the Gendarmerie for distinguished action in combat and during the repression of disturbances.

The Cross was supposed to have three grades, similar to the War Cross of 1940, but there is no evidence that this ever happened.
