    History

The Commendation Medal for Leadership in the Armed Forces was established by Presidential Decree on May 15, 1996. It is awarded to leaders of Army, Navy, and Air Force formations in the Hellenic Armed Forces. The I Class Medal is awarded to Army Generals and Corps leaders, Admirals of the Navy, and Lieutenant Generals of the Air Force. The II Class Medal is awarded to Army division leaders, Vice-Admirals of the Navy, and Major ...   and Brigadier Generals of the Air Force. The III Class Medal is awarded to Army brigade leaders, Commodores of the Navy, and Colonels and Lieutenant Colonels of the Air Force.

All medals are identical and are only distinguished by ribbon clasps, which are inscribed with the recipient's unit name. If the recipient is promoted and recognised again, an additional clasp may be added to the ribbon.

Medals for the Army are awarded on a light blue ribbon with red edges, medals for the Navy are awarded on a light blue ribbon with dark blue edges, and medals for the Air Force are awarded on a light blue ribbon with royal blue edges.

The II Class Medal has a silvered bronze clasp.
