History
This decoration was officially recognized by the Estonian government on June 19, 1929. It is an award of the Estonian Defence League, and is not a state decoration. It was suspended during the Soviet occupation, but was later renewed after the restoration of Estonian independence.
It is conferred upon members of the Estonian Defence League in recognition of long and meritorious service. It may also be awarded to foreigners for service to the Estonian Defence League.
The reverse inscription represents the establishment date of the Estonian Defence League.
