History

This Order was conferred upon Bulgarian and foreign citizens and organizations in recognition of contributions to the economic, public, cultural, or scientific development of the nation.

It was also awarded to “Labour Heroes” for reaching five year labour goals prior to the end of the established time limits.

The Order was altered several times, but there are two main emissions of the medal. Wherein the medals issued first are numbered on the reverse, and the medals issued second are not numbered on the reverse.

The Order was discontinued on April 5, 1991.

The obverse inscription translates to “For Socialist Labour.”

There are many variation in the design of the medal, including holes in the reverse, a flat and smooth reverse, a flat reverse with a nipple, a reverse with a screw, multi-part construction and single part construction.
