History

This is the highest honour of the Republic of the Philippines. It takes precedence over all orders and medals. It has been awarded a total of 5 times since 1946.

It is conferred upon Philippine citizens in recognition of irreproachable service to the nation resulting in a lasting benefit.

The obverse features an inscription that can be translated as "Let the Republic Flourish".
