History

This medal is conferred upon Burmese civilians in recognition of gallantry.

It is the second highest civilian decoration for gallantry. This medal was instituted to replace the British George Medal. It ranks after the Aung San Thuriya.

The medal features a chinthe (leogryph) resting on a scroll. The scroll features Burmese script.
