Mongolia


Mongolia is a country in East Asia. It is a landlocked country and lies between China and Russia. However, Mongolia is referred to as “Land of the Blue Sky” because it has over 260 sunny days a year. Mongolia does not share a border with Kazakhstan, although only 37 kilometres separates them. It is also the world's second-largest landlocked country behind Kazakhstan. Around 3 million people live in Mongolia. In this country, there are 13 times more horses than humans. The capital city is Ulaanbaatar and the official language is Mongolian.

The country the world knows as Mongolia is actually historic Outer Mongolia - Inner Mongolia is still an autonomous region of China.

In 1206, Genghis Khan founded the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous land empire in history. The Mongol Empire's strength waned after the overthrow of their centerpiece, the Yuan Dynasty rulers of China, in 1368. In 1691, the Manchus, founders of China's Qing Dynasty, conquered Mongolia. The country was a province of China between 1691 and 1911, and again from 1919 to 1921. On November 26, 1924, the Mongolian People’s Republic became the world’s second Communist country. In the 1980s, Mongolia began to pull away from the USSR. It established diplomatic relations with the U.S., and the first democratic elections were held in 1990.

Now is Mongolia is a semi-presidential representative democratic republic with a directly elected President.
