History
The highest war decoration awarded in the state, for acts of valour performed by military personnel or civilians during war or peacetime. There are no distinguishing characteristics between either the military or civil division medals. There should be at least two witnesses to this act of valour, and the award may be conferred posthumously.
This award was instituted by the Sultan Badlishah of Kedah. It is awarded in one class. The decoration is a four-point bronze star suspended by a ring. The obverse bears two crossed kris points upwards with a wreath around them and a scroll with the inscription "Untok Keberanian" meaning "For Valour" in Jawi script. Between the points of the kris, at 12 o'clock is a small Kedah crest. The reverse is plain with the inscription "For Valour" in English. The ribbon is red with a dark blue stripe down the center.
