History

This medal was conferred upon members of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy in commemoration of Japan's victory over Russia, resulting in the gains of Sakhalin and Korea.

The obverse suspension bar features Japanese characters, which translate to "War Medal". The reverse features Japanese characters, which translate to "Meiji 37-8 Years’ War - the thirty-seventh and thirty-eighth years of Emperor Meiji’s reign being 1904-1905".
