History
The Medal of the Crescent of Osman (Tamga-i-Hilal-e-Osmani) was instituted by His Exalted Highness the Nizam Osman Ali Khan, the last ruler of Hyderabad prior to the State's annexation by India, on December 11, 1944. The Medal was awarded irrespective of gender, sex, social class, or occupation in recognition of acts of courage which served to benefit the public interest. Acts of self-sacrifice were also eligible for the award.
Posthumous awards of the Medal were permitted.
Clasps were authorized for wear on the ribbon to denote subsequent acts of qualifying service.
The reverse features an engraving of the recipient's name and the Fasli date of the award.
Recipients were also entitled to a financial allowance.
