The Gwalior Medal was established by Maharaja Rao Scindia on November 14, 1912. The Medal was presented in 3 Classes and was believed to have been awarded in recognition of war service during the First and Second World Wars. Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, and other military personnel were eligible for the award. British foreigners may also have been eligible.
The Gwalior Copper Medal was awarded as the III Class.
The Medal features the inscription in English "FOR GOD AND GWALIOR" on the obverse suspension.
