History
The Household Medal was instituted by Maharaja Ganga Singh. The Medal may have been first established as early as 1887, but additional research is necessary to confirm its date of institution. The Medal was awarded in 3 Classes and was discontinued in 1950.
The III Class is composed of bronze.
There are 2 versions of the Household Medal. The first version, instituted by Maharaja Ganga Singh, features a royal effigy of Maharaja Ganga Singh on the obverse and is a circular design. In 1943, the Medal was redesigned by Maharaja Sadul Singh. The later version features a royal effigy of Maharaja Sadul Singh and is a heptagon design. Maharaja Sadul Singh's Medal may also be referred to as the Maharaja's Household Medal.
Both the first and second version features an English and Devanagari inscription on the reverse. The first version is inscribed with "FOR ROYAL SERVICE" while the second version is inscribed with "FOR LOYAL AND FAITHFUL SERVICE."
Recipients of the first version (Maharaja Ganga Singh) Medal were also entitled to be awarded with second version (Maharaja Sadul Singh) Medal. Recipients of both versions were entitled to wear both Medals.
