History
This medal was conferred upon members of the Police Forces, Home Guards, Civil Defence Organizations, Railway Protection Forces, and military personnel in recognition of service in the Siachen Glacier area. It was also awarded to members of the Indian Air Force for service in Operation Meghdoot, which supported the troops in the Siachen Glacier area.
This medal was awarded retroactively from January 26, 1965.
