History

This medal is conferred upon members of the Indian Police Force in recognition of gallantry when saving a life or property, or for crime prevention. It is also awarded for at least 21 years of distinguished service with the Police Force.

This medal was originally known as the President's Police and Fire Service Medal (see IND313).

When awarded for gallantry, this medal is issued on a blue and white ribbon with a central red stripe. When awarded for distinguished service, it is issued on a blue and white medal.
