History

This medal is conferred upon members of Indian law enforcement (Police Forces, Border Security Forces, Intelligence, etc.) in recognition of gallantry or distinguished service.

Medals awarded for gallantry are issued on a silver, blue and red ribbon with two thin silver stripes splitting the blue sections. Medals awarded for distinguished service are issued on a silver and blue ribbon with a central red stripe.

The obverse features inscriptions in English and Devanagari. The Devanagari inscription reads as "Satyameva Jayate".
