History
The Joint Service Commendation Medal was authorized by the Department of Defence on June 25, 1963. The Decoration rewards any member of the Air Force for distinguished and meritorious service in a Department of Defence recognized joint activity that does not merit an award of the Meritorious Service Medal. The award of the Decoration was made retroactive to January 1, 1963.
A bronze "V" device is worn on the ribbon to denote an award of the Decoration made in recognition of acts of heroism. Bronze or silver oak leaf emblems may also be issued to denote additional awards.
It is uncertain if the reverse is officially engraved with the recipient's details.
