History

The Aerial Achievement Medal was authorized on February 3, 1988, by the Secretary of the Air Force. The Bronze Medal is awarded to the United States military and civilian personnel who demonstrate sustained meritorious achievement in the performance of aerial flight conduct that goes above and beyond that which is normally expected of professional airmen, but which is less than is required to qualify for the award of the Air Medal. Each major Air Force Command published their own criteria for the award, as each command flys different aircrafts or performs different functions.

Bronze or silver oak leaf emblems are worn on the ribbon to denote additional awards.

It is uncertain if there is an additional version for civilian recipients. It is also uncertain if the reverse was officially engraved with the recipient's details.
