History
The United States Public Health Service Achievement Medal was established by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The Bronze Medal is awarded to civilians and Officers of the rank of Lieutenant Commander or below in recognition of significant sustained contributions and achievements towards the goals of the Public Health Service that go beyond the normal expectations of duty over a relatively short period of time. Eligible service may include the advancement of program objectives, sustained above-average dedication to duty, or a single act that contributes to the public health of the nation.
A gold star is authorized for wear on the ribbon to denote subsequent awards of the Medal. A silver star may be worn in lieu of 5 gold stars.
There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by reverse design.
