The NOAA Administrator’s Award was established by the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere on October 1, 1985. The Bronze Medal is granted annually to any Federal NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) employees to recognize significant achievements to NOAA programs and services that go beyond the normal expectations of duty. The Medal may be awarded in recognition of contributions to diversity, equal employment opportunity, scientific research, public and administrative service, engineering, environmental and policy development, and leadership among other exceptional achievements. Heroic acts or services which preserve life or property are also eligible for the award. While all NOAA employees are eligible for recognition of the award, only NOAA commissioned officer corps are eligible to receive the Medal, while civilian NOAA employees receive a plaque. Members of senior Executive Services may be recognized by an honorary award of the NOAA Administrator’s Award
Recipients of the NOAA Administrator’s Award receive a monetary award of $5,000.
