The Department of State Superior Honor Award was established by the United States Department of State. The Silver Medal was awarded to members of the Foreign Service, Civil Service, or the United States Military in recognition of special acts, sustained service, or extraordinary performance that exceeds a period of 1 year. Qualifying service includes that which significantly impacts the accomplishment of the agency's missions, contributes to the advancement of government's interests, involves innovation in the accomplishment of tasks or an increase in productivity and efficiency, or which displays an exceptional devotion to duty under adverse conditions. Since 2007, the award is no longer issued with a Medal.
