The Department of State Distinguished Honor Award was established by the United States Department of State. The Gold Medal is awarded to groups or personnel employed by the foreign service, civil service, or the United States military in recognition of exceptionally outstanding achievements and sustained service. Qualifying service must have a significant national or international impact; such as resulting in the successful accomplishment of United States government missions or in the advancement of objectives.
