History

The Merchant Marine Expeditionary Award was authorized by the Merchant Marine Decorations and Medals Act of May 30, 1988. The Medal is awarded to personnel of the United States Merchant Marines in recognition of service on a United States flagship in support of American or Allied forces operations. The Medal was initially awarded for service in support of the operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
