History

The Captain Robert Dexter Conrad Award was created by the Secretary of the Navy and is named in honour of Captain Robert Dexter Conrad, who was the primary founder of the Navy’s basic research program. The Gold Medal is awarded annually to civilian employees of the Department of the Navy, Department of the Navy contractor employees, or military members on active duty to recognize outstanding technical and scientific research achievements and other developments which benefit the Department of the Navy.
