History

The Typhus Commission Medal was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt by Executive Order on December 24, 1942. The Medal was awarded to members of the Typhus Commission who were serving with the United States Army, Navy, and Public Health Service in recognition of meritorious service in controlling the Tyhous epidemic in and outside the United States.

The medal ceased to be issued after the late 1940s after the disbanding of the Commission.
