History


The Texas Cavalry Congressional Medal was established by Act of Congress on April 16, 1924. The Bronze Medal was awarded to Officers and enlisted personnel of 2 Texas Cavalry Brigades that were raised by the State of Texas on December 8, 1917, to relieve the regular Army regiments and served on the Mexican border during the First World War. Personnel who served between December 8, 1917, and November 11, 1918, and who did not receive the World War I Victory Medal, are eligible for the award the of Medal. The Texas Cavalry Congressional Medal is the only medal specifically awarded to State troops by the Federal government.
