History
The Korean Defence Service Medal was authorized by the Department of Defence in 2003. The Bronze Medal is awarded to all military personnel in recognition of 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days of service in the defence of the Republic of Korea and service in adjacent waters following the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement on July 28, 1954. The Medal may also be awarded regardless of time served for service in actual armed combat, for service curtailed as a result of wounds and injuries inflicted while in the line of duty, or to regularly assigned aircrew members for 30 days or more of duty of flying sorties in the Korean airspace.
The award may be awarded posthumously.
