History

The Submarine Combat Patrol Badge was issued to Officers and enlisted men of the United States Navy Submarine Service upon the successful completion of a war patrol. Succesful patrols involve the sinking of an enemy ship or the accomplishment of another combat mission that is of significant importance. The Badge was awarded for service during the Second World War and was typically worn alongside with the primary submarine warfare insignia.

Gold service stars were attached to the Badge to denote subsequent successful patrols. A silver service star may be worn in place of a gold star to denote the award of 5 gold stars.

There are multiple versions of the Badge which vary by composition. There may be additional versions which vary by design.
