History
The Navy Aircrew Badge is issued by the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The Wings are worn by naval personnel in recognition of extensive training in flight operations of naval aircraft, including training in weapons management, electronic warfare, and water survival. The Wings are most frequently awarded to enlisted aviation personnel upon the completion of Personnel Qualification Standards.
The Wings are similar in design to the Naval Aviation Observers Badge (see USA469) but feature the addition of the letters "AC" superimposed on the anchor design used in the original Naval Aviation Observers Badge.
Unlike the Army Air Force and Air Force Aircrew Badges, which are issued in 3 grades, the Navy Aircrew badge is issued in a single degree.
