History
The Gliderborne Badge was established by the United States Army on June 22, 1944. The Badge was issued to personnel who were assigned or attached to a glider or airborne unit, or to the Airborne Department of the Infantry School, upon the successful completion of training or participation in 1 or more combat glider missions into enemy territory. Following the Second World War, the wearing of the Badge was expanded to any service member who had completed glider unit training at the Airborne school. The Badge was discontinued in 1961 but remained authorized for wear.
Various coloured and patterned trimmings may be worn behind the badge to denote assignment to certain glider units.
