History
The Civil Air Patrol Pilot Wings were worn by members of the Civil Air Patrol during the Second World War. The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was initially established in 1941 but were amalgamated as an auxiliary unit of the United States Army Air Force in 1943. The Civil Air Patrol consisted of civilian volunteer pilots who used private equipment to perform wartime service during the Second World War. Service included search, rescue, patrol, antisubmarine and courier duties.
There may be additional versions of the Pilot Wings which differ by composition. There may also be a later version of the Pilot Wings which are issued in 3 degrees. However, these are not featured here and more research is needed.
