History

The Army Air Force WASP Badge was worn by members of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP). WASP was established by Jacqueline Cochran and consisted of over 1000 United States Federal civil service employees who flew military aircraft used by the United States Army Air Forces under military command. However, WASP personnel were refused military benefits, military funerals for deaths incurred whilst in the line of duty, and other recognition for military service until 1977. In 2010, living WASP veterans were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. The Women Airforce Service Pilots were disbanded in December 1944.

The design of the Wings features a depiction of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) mascot, Fifinella, a female gremlin designed by Walt Disney.

There are additional versions of the Army Air Force WASP Badge which differ by design which are not featured here.
