The Cross for Sonora (Cruz por Sonora) was authorized in Mexico in recognition of the Officers and men who fought against a French invading army at Guaymas, Sonora in 1852.
The Cross consisted of two classes according with the rank of the recipient. I Class Cross made in Gold was awarded to Officers, while II Class Cross made in Silver was awarded to enlisted men.
The Cross features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "To Accredited Courage in Sonora in 1852," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "The Government of the Mexican Republic."
