History

The Merit Cross for Chapultepec (Cruz al Mérito por Chapultepec) was authorized in Mexico in recognition of the meritorious actions of the Mexican army at the battle of Chapultepec Castle, where they defeated an invading American army advancing through Mexico City in 1847.

The Cross could be awarded posthumously.

The Cross features a reverse inscription that can be translated to "The Fatherland to Merit.
