History

This Order is conferred by the Government of Jamaica upon Jamaican citizens in recognition of distinguished services to the nation. It is awarded upon retirement from public life and it can be awarded posthumously.

The Motto of the Order is "He built a city which hath foundations."

The insignia consists of a gold and white enamelled fourteen point star. The obverse centre features a heraldic Arms of Jamaica in gold on a black background, with the motto surrounding the exterior. It is suspended from a laurel wreath attached to a green, yellow and black ribbon.
