This medal is conferred upon Jamaican citizens in recognition of notable contributions to the nation. To qualify for this medal, recipients must:

1) Be at least 38 years old
2) Have not received a National Honour
3) Served the community and Jamaica for at least 20 years

A total of 12 medals can be awarded annually.
