History
The Police Exemplary Service Medal was instituted on August `12, 1983 to recognize Canadian police officers who have served in an exemplary manner, displaying good conduct, efficiency, and dedication to their service.
This medal is conferred upon members of the force with 20 years of full-time service, in which no other national long service, good conduct, or efficiency decoration has been awarded. Police Officers serving on or after August 1, 1983 are eligible to receive the medal, although it was not patented until August 12,1983 by Queen Elizabeth II.
The obverse features the Scales of Justice, inscribed with [EXEMPLARY SERVICE. SERVICES DISTINGUÉS]. The reverse features the Royal Cipher. The name of the recipient is engraved on the lower rim.
A Bar featuring a maple leaf is awarded to recognize subsequent service periods of 10 years.
The Medal may be awarded posthumously.
