History

The Order of Dr. Ricardo J. Alfaro was founded in 2008 to reward Panamanian and foreigners who have displayed outstanding civic virtues in promotion of peace, national identity, and human rights. The Order was named after Dr. Ricardo J. Alfaro (1882-1971) who was a Panamanian civil servant and diplomat. He negotiated international treaties, and led the Spanish Version of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

The Order consists of Grand Collar, Grand Cross, and Grand Officer.
