History
The Order of Antonio José de Irisarri was instituted in Guatemala in 1973. It is currently conferred upon nationals and foreigners diplomats for meritorious services to Guatemala.
The Order is awarded with five grades; Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, and Officer.
The Order is named after Antonio José de Irisarri (1786-1868), who was a Guatemalan statesman, journalist, and politician who served as Interim Supreme Director of Chile in 1814 under Bernardo O'Higgins. He is considered one of the fathers of Chilean journalism together with Fr. Camilo Henríquez.
