History

The Order of the National Hero was instituted in 1991 to reward citizens of Belize in recognition of exceptional achievement and meritorious service to Belize and to humanity. There is limited information regarding to its grades.

The Order is the highest honor awarded by the government of Belize, and might be awarded posthumously. As of 2019, the Order of the National Hero has been awarded three times, twice being posthumous.
