History
The Police Star Order (Estrella de la Policía), a.k.a Civic Star (Estrella Cívica), was established by decree on September 9, 1953, to distinguish and recognize the work and professional virtues of the members of the National Police of Colombia, and citizens, who have provided eminent services to protect, guarantee life, honor, and other rights of the inhabitants of the national territory.
It is currently awarded with six grades, they are: Extraordinary Civil Grand Star, Ordinary Civil Grand Star, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Member.
The badges feature the grade name on the reverse.
The Ordinary Civil Grand Star is awarded exclusively to Generals, Chief of the National Police, and Chief of the Catholic Church in Colombia.
The first awarded were granted on May 10, 1957, by General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla.
